Polar was contacted by The Light Aircraft Company in June 2020, enquiring if we could support the reverse engineering of their new aircraft model by capturing the raw data of the aircraft’s body panels, through our 3D laser scanning service.

The customer required surface data of the current fibreglass panels, so they could remodel and make minor adjustments in CAD to improve the fit of certain aspects of the aircraft.

Polar attended, with the MetraSCAN 750 Elite 3D laser scanner, and over the course of a day captured several scans of the required areas.

This data was analysed, cleaned and tidied using VXmodel reverse engineering software, into useable ‘panel’ files. These files were then supplied to The Light Aircraft Company for surface modelling.
